FEEL THE STAG (2) is knocking on the door and has placed twice in three starts in his initial campaign, most recently as the favourite over 1200m at Ellerslie, finishing less than a length from the winner. He cops a wide gate, but he is still expected to be the one to beat. HORRIE (1) resumed from a spell with a solid third over 1200m at Matamata nearly 4 weeks ago, staying in contention around the bend, and fighting on gamely. He strips fitter and is on target to pick up a win at short notice. CAPOTE (3) hit a flat spot on debut but stuck on gamely, finishing fourth over 990m at New Plymouth Raceway when starting as the favourite. He will naturally improve second up, and will also be suited by the step up to 1200m. Each way. JEEVES (12) had one run in his initial prep, finishing fifth over 970m at Cambridge on the poly track. He resumes from a new stable and has been close up in a couple of trials. A wide gate might not be a bad thing on a heavy track, so watch the market moves.
