JAYZEAL (2) improved sharply with a dominant win this grade/trip at Tatura 6 days ago. Draws awkwardly today but Bates is a positive jockey engagement and with average luck he can go on with the job. STATESMANSHIP (11) just missed at Bairnsdale and will be better for it. He's capable of using the inside gate and should be right in the finish. All bar his latest PONTMEIRION (1) has been racing very well on the Ballarat synthetic. Went well enough when last seen on turf and maps for the run of the race. SHE IS ALL MAGIC (9) found more like her best beaten a nose at Bairnsdale over 1000m. She's also on a quick backup and has the ability. The longer sprint is the niggle with her. VERY GRATEFUL (7) has been freshened and has pieces of form suggesting he should be kept onside.
