Curragh

Tomorrow, May 5, 2025Flat1m

OFFICER is the clear pick on the back of a highly encouraging reappearance third in a strong renewal of the Gladness Stakes here in March. That effort was all the more meritorious considering that the two that finished in front of him (including a previous Group 1 winner in Camille Pissarro) were both far more experienced, and this son of Dubawi promises to be suited by this step up to 1m. Progressive hat-trick seeker Currawood, the promising and Wannabe Royal can do battle for minor honours.

Won 15-runner 7f maiden on debut here last August and positive start to 3-y-o campaign when third in a strong listed contest on his seasonal reappearance back here at the end of March. This Dubawi colt possesses plenty of potential.

Sported first-time cheekpieces when landing the odds on his reappearance at Dundalk (7f) in March. Followed up in good style with a tongue strap added at Cork (1m, soft) recently and looks ready for this step up in class. Respected.

Signs of ability on sole 2-y-o start and duly stepped up on that when landing a 1m Leopardstown (good to soft) by 7 lengths on return last month. Much more on his plate here but there may well be better to come from this well-bred colt.

Wootton Bassett filly who has improved with each of her 4 starts, deservedly opening her account when landing a 7f Limerick maiden (soft) in good style 10 days ago. In good hands and should hold her own at this higher level.

Showed plenty of promise in 2 starts as a juvenile, building on her promising Gowran debut third when landing a 13-runner Punchestown maiden (7f, good) in September. Further progress likely but this is a step up in class and Wannabe Royal is presumably the stable No 1.

    Verdict
Winning start in 6f maiden here on debut last summer and made the frame at this level on final 2 starts of his juvenile campaign. Has been gelded and will be suited by this step up to a mile but he seemingly lacks the scope of some of these.

Bred to be smart and looked a good prospect when winning 5-runner minor event at Dundalk (1m) on debut in March. Failed to progress upped to this grade at Newcastle since but he nevertheless remains of interest.

Well on top at the finish when making a winning start to his career in a 7f Dundalk maiden last month. Open to improvement but probably biting off more than he can chew here.
