KATDEEL (17) disappointed last start over 1800m at the Gold Coast in a run worth overlooking. Beaten under three lengths over this distance at Doomben in heavy going two back which is a strong form line for a race of this calibre. Must go on top in a very open affair. MERAPI (10) has returned in fine order this prep. Won a modest BM50 first-up over 1210m at Port Macquarie then chimed in late to be beaten under a length in another BM50 at the same track over more ground. Up in class but gets some weight relief and should be competitive. HE'S A COPY BOY (3) has attacked the line with gusto at his two runs back from a break. Usually starts to improve at this stage of the prep. Good wet tracker who races well here so looks a genuine chance. PER CAPITA (4) saves his best for Grafton including an eye-catching second in a similar race here three back. Right in the mix. Last start Ballina winner FRIEND IN NEED (16) has further improvement to come at just the third run of the campaign.
