MATUSALEM (2) has returned in career-best touch this prep, only beaten narrowly in his last two in town. He should be at his top now and gets the key booking of JMac from the gun draw. If he can’t win today, not sure when he will. ELLIPTICAL (5) has been knocking on the door for a long time since returning from HK last Nov. Meets a few of these with a handy pull at the weights and draws well for McEvoy. Only needs to hold his form to be right there at the business end. Gets a genuine chance to break a 3.5-year drought. ELIYASS (1) got things back on track in a big way last start when fending off Matusalem in town. Matched his 2024 G3 Kingstown win there, so he looks back to his best. He concedes weight but should have more to offer third up. BELLA MONTAGNA (3) progressed nicely last campaign, running a career peak in the G3 Premier’s Cup when beaten a head-neck by stablemate Alalcance. Jumped fav in the Brisbane Cup off that but couldn't meet expectation. Have to respect.
