Verdict

Having justified good support when successful on debut for Dan Skelton at Uttoxeter, ASHDOWN FOREST fared best of those held up in a messy race when third behind Ballynoe Boy at Market Rasen 3 weeks ago. He's well worth another chance to prove his revised mark a workable one and emerge victorious this time. La Lolita and Lucky in Taipan are others worth a second look.

Proved a different proposition over hurdles as he landed the odds on the back of another breathing operation for new yard at Uttoxeter (2m) in July. Did best of those held up when third behind Ballynoe Boy at Market Rasen 3 weeks ago and worth another chance to prove revised mark is workable.

    Verdict
Had made the frame on 3 of his 4 starts in handicaps prior to gaining a breakthrough success at Market Rasen (19f) 3 weeks ago, running on. Omission of hurdles in the straight meant there was no pressure on his jumping but he commands respect nevertheless back at a slightly longer trip.

Displayed ability in bumpers in 2024. No impact for Max Young last year but did shape a fair bit better than on his stable debut when third of 9 in handicap hurdle at Worcester (2½m, good) 16 days ago. Not out of the question he could step up further for his present yard. Betting can guide.

Got off the mark in 4-runner mares novice hurdle at Ludlow (21f) last season and shaped well on 2 of her 3 starts since, stepping up on her comeback run when fourth at Worcester (2½m) 12 days ago. That may well have put her spot on for this.

Multiple winner over hurdles but yet to get his head in front as a chaser, again taking little cut at the fences and never on terms at Cartmel (17f) 7 weeks ago. Return to hurdling from further reduced mark needs to have positive effect but that is distinctly possible.

Landed first leg of a double in a 23f handicap at Newton Abbot last summer. Yet to fire in trio of starts this summer, though, and whilst his mark is sliding, he may benefit from a return to longer trips. Had breathing operation ahead of this.

Bumper winner last season who made hard work of finishing fifth on second start in handicap hurdles at Newton Abbot (17f) in June. Again went with little fluency when sixth at Stratford 2 weeks ago and first-time blinkers need to have a positive effect.

Made the frame in trio of handicap hurdles before seemingly not taking to fences at Uttoxeter in October. Low-key return from 7 months off over C&D in May and he'll need to take a sizeable step forward from that if he's to feature following another absence.

Forward-going sort who was twice a winner here last year (including over C&D). Form patchy in 2 starts thereafter but looked and shaped as if in need of the run after 11 months off when seventh of 9 in handicap hurdle at Cartmel (2¾m, good) 7 weeks ago. Better expected with that under his belt.

Successful in a brace of 2½m handicaps in 2023. Made the frame on all 3 handicap starts the following season but shaped as if needing the run after 16 months off starting out for new yard at Hexham (2m) in June. Return to further a likely plus.

Runner-up on completed start in Irish points and whilst she's yet to finish better than midfield in 3 maiden hurdle runs, she ought to hold more chance now handicapping over a longer trip that is expected to suit. Market can guide.
