CASEMIRO (1) has found it hard to win another race, and ran a solid race for third when finishing less than a length from the winner in a stronger field over 1600m at Ellerslie 18 days ago. He looks very well-placed in this and is the one to beat. MR MARIGOLD (2) scored a strong win over 1400m at Tauranga last start as favourite, finding the right race following on from a couple of starts in tougher fields at Ellerslie. Hard to hold out again. SOARING PENGSHAN (4) pressed forward from a wide draw last time, and outstayed his rivals to win by nearly a length at Te Aroha over 1400m. He has taken his time to get fully fit after returning from Hong Kong, and he can now go on with the job. SCARLET TEMPLE (5) is normally running on late in her races, finishing fifth over 1600m at Te Rapa last start. She is crying out for more ground, but on a heavy track by this time of the day, it will be more like a middle-distance than a mile. Stick with her. VEGAS LIGHTS (12) is not out of this.
