NOT SO SOBERS had solid form in bumpers and showed plenty of promise over hurdles before disappointing in a first-time tongue strap (now removed) at Huntingdon in March. He's fancied to make a successful return if back to his best, with Uttoxeter novice hurdle winner Soul Limbo feared most following a victory on the Flat at Bath last month. Mr McLoughlan could progress again, but will need to under a penalty.

Placed in bumpers for Craig Lidster and has made an encouraging start over hurdles for new connections, improving from his hurdling bow to get off the mark in a 13-runner novice hurdle at Worcester (16f, soft) 21 days ago. Quicker conditions shouldn't pose a problem and he may well progress again.

Was running a big race on hurdles debut when falling at the last at Worcester (2m) and confirmed that promise at the second time of asking when winning a Uttoxeter novice (15.8f) in July. Still in fine heart when winning on the Flat at Bath last month and merits respect back over hurdles.

Solid bumper form and was going the right way over hurdles when fourth at Huntingdon (15.8f), shaping second best until blundering last two hurdles. Didn't see out his race in a first-time tongue strap (now removed) over the same C&D in March but looks interesting if back to his best on return.

    Verdict
Disappointing maiden on Flat (stays 1m) and unable to build on minor promise shown on hurdles bow, shaping more like a non-stayer when well-held in a novice hurdle at Warwick (16f, good to firm) 13 days ago. Unlikely to make an impact in this company.

Went the right way in bumpers for Gordon Elliott and shaped with promise on hurdles/stable debut when second in a 12-runner novice over C&D last month, no match for improving subsequent winner. The fifth has also given that form a boost and he could improve on second hurdles start.

    Verdict
Well held on both hurdles start to date (latest when last in a 4-runner handicap in Jersey in May 2023). Had a pipe-opener on first start for Richard Phillips at Bath last month but likely to be found wanting on return to hurdles.
