Competitive. MISS DEFY (9) appeals most, presenting off a comfortable win at Canberra in a CL1. She enjoyed the step up to 2000m, and Nick Heywood continues his association with the mare. She is well placed to go on with the job. MIDNIGHT AFFAIR (8) is also Canberra-trained and brings near misses from the Sapphire Coast and Canberra over 1600m. They stack right up, and she maps for the run of the race. PRIDE OF JEZZA (3) was heavily supported, winning here over a mile. He picked up impressively and the extra 200m will suit. Draws awkwardly but will come hard. PARABELLUM (12) had been knocking on the door before a plain effort at Wangaratta. May have had excuses, and a better effort is likely. He always needs some luck, but is worth including at a price. The hopes don't end there.
