There could be competition for the lead in this tight 5-runner handicap and a truly-run race won't harm the prospects of OUR SAM, who looked to be finding his way back to form at Cartmel and should be much better suited by this longer trip. Kilmore Rock is on an upward trajectory and has to be respected in his bid for a 4-timer, while Powers Dilemma looks solid following his recent second over C&D.

Bumper winner on debut at this venue and has developed into a progressive staying hurdler for the fitting of cheekpieces, landing the hat-trick in a 7-runner handicap hurdle at Kelso (22.7f, good) 31 days ago. Now 7 lb higher but is on an upward trajectory. Respected in bid for 4-timer.

    Verdict
Cheekpieces on for first time when an encouraging third on handicap debut at this course and backed that up (with headgear retained) with his best effort over hurdles to date when runner-up over C&D 18 days ago. Lightly-raced for his age and should go well again.

Inconsistent performer posted one of her better efforts in first time cheekpieces when third at this course (20.1f) last month. Races from the same mark but remains to be seen whether headgear has the same impact second time around.

Showed more than previously for current yard when runner-up (in first-time cheekpieces) at Southwell (24.3f, good) in March and confirmed return to form under a more positive ride when third of 9 at Worcester (23f) last month. Should be competitive again.

    Verdict
C&D winner looks to be finding his way back to form, uncomfortable with the pace over 22f at Cartmel 10 days ago, stayed on for pressure. Handicapper has given him a chance and the step back up in trip will be in his favour. Makes plenty of appeal.
